Brighton Bulldogs Football Club (BBFC)
Brighton Bulldogs Football Club Physio Support
Sandgate PhysioWorks provides physiotherapy and player care for the Brighton Bulldogs Football Club. We aim to keep players on the park, shorten injury time, and build stronger, more resilient footballers.
How the Club Partnership Works
The PhysioWorks–Brighton Bulldogs partnership centres on early injury assessment, clear guidance, and smooth progression from training niggles to full rehabilitation when needed. Players can access on-site training triage, priority clinic care, and discounted services, all coordinated to reduce downtime and support consistent performance across the season.
For Coaches & Team Managers
We support coaches and team managers with clear injury guidance and practical next steps. When a player presents with a new issue at training triage, we can advise whether they should modify training, book in for clinic assessment, or organise imaging or a GP review when appropriate.
If your team is managing multiple injuries at once, our clinic team can also help coordinate appointment timing and staged return-to-training plans.
We support senior, U23, women’s and junior players with clinic-based assessment, football-specific rehabilitation, and clear return-to-training advice. If you need a Brighton Bulldogs Football Club physio, our team at Sandgate is ready to help.

Training Triage Clinic
During the football season, our physiotherapists run a free on-site training triage clinic at the club one evening per week, usually on a training night. This service is a core part of the PhysioWorks–Brighton Bulldogs partnership.
The training triage clinic is available to:
- Senior and U23 players
- Women’s teams
- Junior players
At training triage we can:
- Assess new injuries early
- Advise whether you can safely continue training
- Provide simple taping or basic strapping when suitable
- Recommend clinic-based physiotherapy, imaging or GP review if needed
For the current triage day and time, please check club notices, coach updates or team manager messages.
Training Triage or Clinic Booking? What to Choose
Use training triage when you have a new niggle, a flare-up, or you are unsure if it is safe to keep training. Then, book a clinic appointment when pain persists, performance drops, swelling or bruising appears, or you need a structured rehab plan.
In general:
- Choose training triage for early advice, quick assessment, and simple next steps.
- Choose a clinic booking for a full assessment, diagnosis, hands-on treatment, and a staged return-to-play plan.
If you are not sure, start with training triage or book directly at Sandgate PhysioWorks.
Injury Prevention & Performance Screening

PhysioWorks offers targeted injury risk and performance screening for Brighton Bulldogs players. These sessions help you:
- Identify strength, mobility or control deficits that raise injury risk
- Build warm-up, gym and conditioning programs that match football demands
- Reduce time lost from common football injuries such as ankle sprains, hamstring strains and knee injuries
Any player can book an individual screening at Sandgate PhysioWorks. A Brighton Bulldogs player discount applies.
Massage for Brighton Bulldogs Players
Remedial and sports massage supports recovery, manages muscle tightness, and helps players cope with heavy training and match loads. Massage works best when combined with physiotherapy guidance.
Massage may assist with:
- Post-training or post-match soreness
- Calf, quad, hamstring and hip tightness
- Neck, back and shoulder tension from contact
- Load spikes during pre-season or finals
- Recovery during return-to-play rehab
Book via our clinic team or visit Sandgate Massage.
Exercise Physiology Support
Exercise physiologists are available at Sandgate PhysioWorks to support structured, gym-based and longer-term conditioning needs.
Exercise physiology focuses on:
- Strength and conditioning for injury prevention
- Gym-based rehab progressions after physiotherapy
- Managing recurring or longer-term injuries
- Building running, strength and contact capacity
- Supporting return after injury or surgery
Exercise physiologists work closely with physiotherapists to help players transition safely back to full training.
Junior Players: Common Issues & What to Do
Junior players often develop heel, knee, or shin pain during growth spurts, especially when training loads increase. Early management helps prevent long layoffs and keeps kids enjoying their sport.
Common junior issues include:
- Heel pain (often linked to growth plate irritation such as Sever’s)
- Knee pain during growth (often linked to Osgood–Schlatter’s)
- Shin soreness with running
- Ankle sprains and repeated rolling
If a junior has pain that lasts more than 7–10 days, causes limping, or keeps returning, book a clinic assessment. We can guide load changes, footwear advice, strength progressions, and a safe return to training.

Football Injury Education & Prevention
Football demands repeated sprinting, cutting, jumping and contact. These actions load the ankles, knees, hips and hamstrings. At Sandgate PhysioWorks, we place strong emphasis on football injury education and prevention for Brighton Bulldogs players.
Key prevention areas include:
- Warm-Up Quality – include mobility, activation and short acceleration patterns.
- Strength Training – build hamstring, calf, quad and trunk strength to tolerate football loads.
- Load Progression – avoid sudden spikes in running distance, speed or change-of-direction work.
- Recovery Habits – prioritise sleep, hydration, sensible scheduling and, when needed, massage.
- Junior Growth Management – adjust workloads when heel or knee pain appears in growing players.
