Supervised exercise classes at PhysioWorks Sandgate and Clayfield

Exercise Physiology Clayfield supervised sit-to-stand exercise coaching session

Supervised exercise helps build strength and confidence.

Group Exercise Classes Brisbane at PhysioWorks provide supervised class pathways for strength, balance, bone density, posture, mobility and movement confidence. Classes are available at selected Brisbane clinics, including PhysioWorks Sandgate and PhysioWorks Clayfield.

These classes are not generic fitness classes. They are guided by assessment, health history and clear exercise goals. Depending on the class, your group session may be run by one of our physiotherapists or exercise physiologists. Your clinician may suggest one-to-one care first if pain, balance concerns, low confidence, osteoporosis, osteopenia, or recent surgery affects your exercise choices.

For one-to-one supervised exercise support, visit our Exercise Physiology Brisbane page. For clinic-specific EP services, see Exercise Physiology Sandgate or Exercise Physiology Clayfield.

The right class depends on your goal, health history, symptoms and current ability. An assessment helps your clinician check whether you should start with group exercise, a balance class, a bone density class, hydrotherapy, Exercise Physiology, physiotherapy, or one-to-one care. Depending on the class and timetable, your class may then be supervised by a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist.

Do I Need an Assessment Before Joining?

Yes, most people should start with an assessment. This helps confirm which class is appropriate and whether you need any exercise changes. It also helps your clinician decide whether you should start with group exercise, a balance class, a bone density class, hydrotherapy, Exercise Physiology, physiotherapy, or an individual appointment.

Your class may then be supervised by a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist, depending on the program, clinician availability and clinic schedule. For some people, individual Exercise Physiology or a physiotherapy appointment at Sandgate or Clayfield may be the best first step before joining a group class.

Group Mat Pilates / Physiotherapy Group Exercise

Group Mat Pilates / Physiotherapy Group Exercise focuses on posture, mobility, core control, strength and movement quality. Pilates-style exercises may be included, but the class is guided by assessment, rehabilitation goals and exercise choice.

This class may suit people who want small-group guidance for strength, control, general conditioning, return-to-exercise, or confidence with safe movement. It may be run by a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist, depending on the class timetable.

Balance & Falls Prevention Program

The Balance & Falls Prevention Program is designed for people who feel unsteady, have had a fall, or want better balance and leg strength. It may also suit people returning to activity after illness, injury, surgery, or reduced mobility.

Each class may include balance work, stepping drills, walking confidence, leg strengthening and movement practice. Your clinician can modify the exercises to match your ability.

Bone Density Group Exercise Class

The Bone Density Group Exercise Class is a small-group supervised class for adults with osteoporosis, osteopenia, low bone density, or fracture-risk concerns. It focuses on strength, balance, posture and safe weight-bearing work.

Your exercise plan should match your scan results, strength, balance, confidence and goals. This helps keep the class safe, useful and paced to the person. Depending on class scheduling and clinical suitability, this class may be run by a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist.

Hydrotherapy Group Class

Hydrotherapy uses warm water to support movement, strength, balance and graded rehabilitation. The water can reduce load through painful joints and may help people start moving when land-based exercise feels too hard.

Hydrotherapy may suit people with pain during walking, stairs or standing exercise, joint stiffness, arthritis, reduced confidence with balance, or post-operative weakness. A pre-assessment helps decide whether it is appropriate.
