Physiotherapy Group Exercise Classes – Sandgate & Clayfield

Supervised group exercise can support strength, balance and movement confidence.
What Are Physiotherapy Group Exercise Classes?
Physiotherapy Group Exercise Classes are supervised exercise sessions that help people build strength, balance, posture, control and movement confidence. At PhysioWorks Sandgate and Clayfield, these classes include group mat Pilates-style exercise, balance and falls prevention, and bone density strength pathways.
Each class has a different purpose. Some people need posture and core control. Others need balance confidence, leg strength, or supervised strength training for bone health. An initial assessment helps match you to the right class and exercise level.
Classes are available through selected Brisbane PhysioWorks clinics, including Sandgate PhysioWorks and Clayfield PhysioWorks.
Which Class Suits Your Goal?
Your best class depends on your goal, health history, balance confidence, strength, and current exercise tolerance.
- Group Mat Pilates: for posture, core control, mobility, strength and guided rehabilitation.
- Balance & Falls Prevention Classes: for steadiness, leg strength, walking confidence and falls-risk support.
- Bone Density Building Class: for supervised strength training to support bone health.
How Do Physiotherapy Group Exercise Classes Work?
Physiotherapy Group Exercise Classes start with an assessment. Your clinician checks your goals, movement, strength, symptoms, balance and exercise confidence. This helps decide which class is suitable and what changes you may need.
Exercises are then selected and modified for your current level. The goal is safe progress, not a one-size-fits-all workout.
Class Pathways at PhysioWorks
Group Mat Pilates
Group Mat Pilates-style classes use controlled mat exercises to improve posture, trunk control, muscle activation, mobility and strength.
Balance & Falls Prevention
Balance & Falls Prevention Classes focus on steadiness, leg strength, stepping reactions, mobility and confidence with daily movement.
Bone Density Building Class
The Bone Density Building Class focuses on supervised strength training for people who want to support bone health.
Why Choose a Supervised Group Exercise Class?
A supervised group exercise class gives you more guidance than a standard fitness class. Your clinician can adjust exercises, monitor technique and help you progress at a suitable pace.
Assessment Before Class
An initial assessment helps confirm the class is safe and suitable. It also helps your clinician modify exercises for pain, balance concerns, low strength, stiffness or reduced confidence.
Exercise Selection That Matches Your Goal
Different goals need different exercise choices. Core control, balance training, strength work and bone-loading exercise are not the same thing. Your class pathway should match your main goal.
Confidence With Safe Progression
Many people stop exercising because they are unsure what is safe. Supervised exercise can help you build confidence while keeping the program realistic and clear.
Healthdirect explains that physiotherapy can help improve movement, function and recovery through assessment, education and exercise advice. Physiotherapy may also support people recovering from injury or managing longer-term conditions.

Balance and strength training can improve confidence with daily movement.
Who Can Benefit From These Classes?
These classes may suit people who want guided exercise for strength, posture, balance, bone health or rehabilitation. The right class depends on your assessment and goals.

If you are unsure which class is appropriate, book an assessment or call your preferred clinic. The team can guide you to the most suitable pathway.

|---|---|---|
| Group Mat Pilates | Posture, core control, mobility and strength | People wanting guided exercise and movement control |

Do I Need an Assessment Before Joining?
Yes. An assessment helps confirm which class is appropriate and whether you need any exercise changes. It also helps your clinician decide whether you should start with group exercise, a balance class, a bone density class or an individual appointment.
For some people, individual Exercise Physiology may be the best first step before joining a group class.
