What does RehabWorks involve?

RehabWorks is all about joining a supportive community of people working on their own health goals—together. You’ll follow a personalized exercise plan in either a group-based circuit or a follow-along class, all guided by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who tailors every session to match your goals, needs, and interests.

The best part? These classes are flexible and adaptable – made just for you. Whether you’re brand new to exercise or have years of experience, you’re welcome here. Our Exercise Physiologist is highly trained in prescribing exercise for a wide range of conditions, from pre- and post-op rehab, to chronic back pain (see also BackWorks), from sports injuries to long-term health issues like diabetes or COPD.

RehabWorks is your space to feel supported, receive expert feedback, and gain the confidence to move well and feel good doing it.

Can I participate in RehabWorks classes?

Yes—RehabWorks is designed for you! Whether you’re managing a chronic condition, recovering from an injury, looking to improve mobility, or simply want to move more confidently in the gym or otherwise, you can absolutely take part. You don’t need to be “fit” to start—just ready to take that first step toward feeling better in your body.

Before you begin, you’ll have a one-on-one consultation with our Accredited Exercise Physiologist. This helps us get to know your health history, current abilities, and personal goals. From there, we create a plan that’s right for you, with exercises that feel good and make sense for your body.

Exercise Rehabilitation in Australia:

Exercise rehabilitation is a growing and essential part of healthcare in Australia. It focuses on using targeted, evidence-based exercise to help individuals recover from injury, manage chronic conditions, and improve overall physical function and wellbeing. It’s not just about “getting fit”—it’s about restoring confidence in movement and enhancing quality of life.

In Australia, this form of therapy is most commonly delivered by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)—university-qualified allied health professionals who specialize in clinical exercise prescription. AEPs are trained to work with people who have a wide range of health concerns, including:

  • Musculoskeletal injuries (including post-surgical rehab, back pain, joint issues, or post-injury rehab)
  • Chronic conditions (such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, or COPD)
  • Neurological conditions (like stroke or multiple sclerosis)
  • Mental health conditions (supporting better mood, stress management, and energy)

What sets exercise rehabilitation apart is the individualized and goal-oriented approach. In group settings like RehabWorks, every participant follows a plan that’s been tailored to their unique needs—so everyone can move safely and effectively at their own pace.

Many Australians are now accessing exercise rehab through referrals from GPs, private health insurance, or through programs like Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan, NDIS, DVA, or WorkCover.

Whether you’re managing a health condition or simply want to improve how you move and feel, exercise rehab is a powerful, evidence-backed pathway to better health—and it’s more accessible than you might think.

Research….

Group exercise programs led by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs)—like RehabWorks—are backed by research for improving outcomes in a wide range of health areas. These classes offer structured, individualized exercise in a supportive setting, helping people manage chronic conditions, recover from injuries, reduce back pain, and feel more confident moving.

For Chronic Conditions

  • Exercise is considered a core treatment for managing chronic illnesses like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, COPD, and arthritis.
  • AEP-led programs significantly increase physical activity and health outcomes, with sustained benefits even 12 months after the intervention (O’Halloran et al., 2023).
  • Group formats also improve mental health, energy levels, and social connectedness, which are crucial for managing long-term conditions (City Physiotherapy, 2023).

For Sports Injury Recovery

  • Rehabilitation following sports injuries is most effective when guided by clinical exercise professionals.
  • AEPs are trained to progressively reintroduce load through movement, aiding recovery of strength, range of motion, and sport-specific function.
  • Group exercise enhances adherence and motivation, which are critical in rehab outcomes and return-to-activity timelines (Police Health, 2023).

For Low Back Pain (See also BackWorks)

  • Persistent or recurrent low back pain is one of the most common reasons people stop exercising—yet movement is one of the most effective treatments.
  • Supervised, tailored exercise significantly reduces pain and improves function in people with chronic low back pain.
  • AEPs focus on restoring strength, improving posture, and reducing fear of movement (kinesiophobia), which plays a big role in long-term recovery and prevention (Meridian, 2022).

Building Confidence With Movement

  • Many people feel unsure or anxious about exercising, especially if they’ve had past injuries or haven’t moved in a while. RehabWorks helps build trust in your body again.
  • Research shows that structured, supervised exercise improves self-efficacy (your belief in your ability to move safely and effectively), which is essential for creating sustainable, long-term habits.
  • Group settings help participants feel supported, capable, and encouraged—not judged—creating a more positive relationship with movement (City Physiotherapy, 2023).
